Saskatchewan Environmental Society--Working for a Sustainable Future

About Us

The Saskatchewan Environmental Society is a non-profit, registered charity whose mandate is to work towards a world in which all needs can be met in sustainable ways. Sustainability will require healthy ecosystems, healthy livelihoods and healthy human communities.

SES has been active in Saskatchewan since 1970. Through our volunteer committees we’ve worked on such issues as energy production and conservation, sustainable agriculture, mining, forests, nuclear power and urban planning.

We maintain a resource centre in downtown Saskatoon which contains a unique library of information files on environmental issues as well as books, magazines, videos and teaching manuals. SES produces a newsletter six times a year for our membership

We follow developing environmental issues and press for responsible action at the local, provincial, national and international levels. We are frequent participants in environmental assessment processes and multi-stakeholder task groups.

SES focuses on four main areas of action:

Information provision: provision of information services, speakers, resource centre and educational material

Support of community groups: supporting other rural environmental groups both in getting themselves organized and in working towards sustainability goals in their own communities, and helping existing community groups whose main agenda is not environmental to shift towards a focus on sustainability issues

Policy: developing solutions to problems and influencing and participating in societal decision-making

Action Projects: to demonstrate the viability of solutions
