Energy

Energy is one of those good things that has a downside. Lots of downsides, in fact. While our ever-growing energy consumption has resulted in an unprecedented level of luxury and comfort, the impacts of that energy use on the environment are huge. Fossil fuel extraction and burning causes ecological damage, health problems and climate change. Large hydro projects flood huge areas of land, often in regions where Aboriginal people live. Nuclear energy, and the uranium mining associated with it, creates very long-lived, very hazardous wastes.

But being environmentally responsible in our energy use doesn’t mean that we have to “freeze in the dark”. We can dramatically improve our energy efficiency in our buildings, in transportation and in industry by making the right choices. Worldwide and in Saskatchewan, safe, sustainable renewable energy is making a breakthrough as the seriousness of the impacts of fossil fuel use becomes clearer.

Destination Conservation

Destination Conservation Saskatchewan - SES is bringing Environmental education alive in our schools with this student driven, activity based program. This program focuses on educating students about energy and water conservation and reducing waste production.

Energy Awareness Training

Energy Awareness Training - Start saving money, energy and the environment today! Learn of behavioural and technical changes that can be made both at work and at home with this informational session.

Building Operator Training

Building Operator Training - Start saving energy and money at your facility through educating custodians and building operators on energy conservation principles, new technologies and facility retrofits.

Non-Profit

SES/Affinity Credit Union Energy Conservation for Non-Profit Organizations - With this program the Affinity Credit Union and the Saskatchewan Environmental Society have been working together since 2000 to make it easier for non-profit organizations to reduce their utility expenditures through energy conservation. To January 2006, assessments have been conducted for 15 buildings. The assessments have identified potential savings averaging 23% or $7000/year (50 tonnes CO2/year) per building.

Other - Create an energy service tailored to you! SES offers services relating to energy conservation beyond the standard programs.

Archive - The SES has a long history of providing valuable energy projects, click on the links to learn of a few.
