Problems: The fast food industry promotes deforestation, wildlife endangerment, challenges for landfills, health risks, and unsustainable farming practices.
Solutions from the AM to the PM:
BREKFAST:
- If you get coffee on the go every morning, try and keep a re-usable coffee mug in your car. Coffee companies are mandated by the FDA to fuse a plastic insulation into the cups, which renders them un-recyclable. If you bring a portable mug from home, you can just have that filled every morning.
- Some coffee places offer discounts if you bring your own mug
- It stays warmer for longer
- You can find one that is pleasing to your hands and mouth to drink out of, which makes the beverage taste better
LUNCH (or any time you eat fast food)
- If you eat at a food court for lunch on a regular basis, try to keep a Tupperware container & cutlery at your desk. Bring it with you to your lunch location of choice, and instead of having the establishment serve your food in their wasteful packaging, ask them to put it directly in your dish
- This option is cleaner, the packaging used is often shipped from China, and who knows what it has come in contact with between the factory and the fast food outlet.
- You may find your food will taste better in a glass dish, I do.
- If you have leftovers, it is easy to take it back to work and save it for a nice snack when the 3pm yawns start. (Eating smaller portions multiple times a day is better for your metabolism as well)
- Demonstration of glass lock-top Tupperware
- Glass is microwavable, where re-heating other materials can cause dangerous plastics to seep into your food, putting you at risk for cancer
- Glass is easy to clean & maintain
CONVENIENCE AND STYLE
- Demonstration of stylish lunch box (will show 2 Tupperware & mug fit nicely inside)
- You can transport your Tupperware in trendy lunch-boxes that can fit easily into your purse or brief case
